Welcome to Our Lady and St Joseph Catholic Academy
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all staff to share this commitment
PrincipalSara Chapman
Welcome to Our Lady & St Joseph Catholic Academy.
The school is a larger than average 3-11 primary school serving a large, diverse catchment area. The School was inspected in November 2019 and retained the ‘outstanding’ judgement.
We are a school that is committed to a continued drive and pursuit in providing ‘outstanding’ practice. All staff at OLSTJ have a firm belief that we can and do improve the life chances of the children we serve. This reiterates the words from the lead inspector during our Ofsted sharing that ‘People here make a real difference where there is a strong sense of togetherness.’ ‘Everyone deeply cares and the children are valued for who they are ensuring they can shine’ (OFSTED Nov 2019)
As a former pupil of the Holy Spirit MAC schools, it is a huge privilege to be Principal of such a happy, successful and thriving Catholic school. As parents, you want your child to be happy, safe and to receive the very best education in order that they may grow in their faith and be encouraged to develop as ambitious, independent learners.
OLSTJ is an exciting place to learn. We offer a very rich, personalised curriculum for all learners where each child contributes to shaping their learning experiences within purposeful, authentic contexts.
We work relentlessly to nurture our pupils to unlock and achieve their potential and instil pupils with a sense of personal and collective responsibility and we place a great emphasis on the personal, social, spiritual and health education of our pupils alongside having a whole lot of fun!
Senior Executive Principal Sinead Smith
On behalf of the Holy Spirit MAC, I extend a very warm welcome to you.
As a past pupil and past parent of Our Lady & St. Joseph, I have enjoyed a very long personal and professional association with this wonderful school and parish community. I have a great sense of pride in all the school has achieved in recent years and I am unfalteringly excited for the many achievements they will undoubtedly have in the future, as leaders and staff continually push the boundaries to provide an experience for children which is unique, distinctive and truly outstanding.
Mrs Chapman, Mrs Wright and the team are always looking for new and exciting ways to offer children experiences they wouldn’t necessarily get at any other school. Our Lady & St. Joseph is a school that doesn’t ever settle for mediocracy. On the contrary, both staff and children unashamedly want to be the best and so they are always looking for ways to improve. This is why we have secured an outstanding judgement in two consecutive OFSTED inspections and why Our Lady & St. Joseph is considered to be an outstanding Catholic school by the Archdiocese of Birmingham.
Our Lady & St. Joseph is a member of the Holy Spirit MAC. As a family of schools, we work together to consistently improve the quality of education for every child in our schools. Staff and children at Our Lady & St. Joseph benefit from high quality collaboration with colleagues and peers from other schools and this enables us to be continually outward facing and striving for improvement. The children in each of our schools know they not only belong to the school community but they also enjoy being part of our Holy Spirit MAC family.
As a Catholic MAC, we unashamedly proclaim our faith and we guide children to have a deep and fulfilling relationship with Jesus. The prayer life of our schools is incredibly important and children regularly participate in collective worship, both within school and by attending Mass at Our Lady of the Angels. We enjoy strong links with the wider parish community and so when a child becomes a member of the school community at Our Lady & St. Joseph, they also become a member of the parish family.
